[ he smirks to himself and shakes his head. ]

Dickheads from London and the like are always down on it, but fuck 'em. It's a good city.

You ever been to Canada?

[Jeff pulls his hands back, just enough to shrug his jacket off. He offers them to David again, casual, rotating his wrist to display a tattoo.]

[ he smiles a little at the gesture and resumes his touching. he doesn't really know why he's so fascinated by jeff's tattoos — he has his own, there's nothing surprising about them — maybe it's just an easy excuse to touch him. ]

Couple times, yeah. Found out my French i'nt good enough for them snobs in Quebec.

[ it pissed him off at the time, but in hindsight it's pretty funny ]

You can speak French?

[That's aggravatingly sexy, even if the remark about Quebec makes him snort.]

But yeah. Quebec is - something.

[ he makes a small noise to confirm, not thinking much of it. rich kid privilege, everyone learns french in school but he forgets his education was better than most. ]

Yeah, they didn't like me. Course that's kinda the case in most places.

[Ormond's high school in the 90s hadn't really given any of its students a jumpstart on life.]

What? Why? They intimidated?

[The way he laughs is surprised, not mean.]

Somehow feels like an understatement.

[ but he's not planning to elaborate. ]

What about you? Travel much?

[outerfringe]

Nah. I mean- back when I was a roadie, yeah, but I wouldn't say I really ever saw the sights.

[But he would've followed those guys anywhere.]

[ his fingers travel lazily up jeff's forearm, still tracing shapes and the like with a light, gentle touch. ]

Sounds like it was a good time though.

Yeah. It was alright for a while.

[To his great embarrassment, goosebumps ripple briefly up his arm. He's not used to particularly gentle touches these days, and he's concentrating hard here, like he might commit this to memory.]

Turned into a bit of a homebody after that.

Mm. Old man and his dog.

[ he's teasing, but even so there's something deeply fond about the way he says it, and maybe a touch envious too. it sounds so calm and david's never known what that's like, never known peace and quiet aside from moments like this. ]

Definitely feel old sometimes.

[Jeff stretches his arm out a little more, using it as an excuse to keep leaning into David's space.]

I still wanna send you some vinyls.

[hardlydead]

You know I'll probably hate 'em.

[ metal's really not his thing-- hell if it gets heavier than the likes of Oasis or Pulp it's probably a bit much for him. still, he's not opposed to giving it a go, maybe jeff can explain what it is he hears in all that noise. ]

[Jeff seems unbothered by David's assessment there.]

S'fine. Not for everyone. Drop 'em off at Goodwill or whatever if you don't like 'em, but it's worth a shot, right?

[ he leaves his hands resting on jeff's arm, just kind of lightly holding it, an astonished laugh slipping out of him at the same time like the idea of getting rid of the vinyls is both shocking and offensive. ]

I'm not gonna get rid of 'em.

[Jeff shrugs one shoulder, but it's clear he's being careful not to dislodge David's hands. He likes them right there.]

I'm just saying. Nothing wrong with sending it down the line - I've found a lot of good stuff thrifting.

Nah.

[ he's sentimental like that ]

Keepin' them.

[Wouldn't it be nice if they escaped and posted each other gifts. Wouldn't it be nice if they had a chance to meet like two normal people who inhabitated a normal world together. Wouldn't it, wouldn't it, wouldn't it.]

Alright, man, sure. I guess I already promised to keep the ugly hats.

[ if his smile is anything to go by, david's pretty happy with that response, though a better way to tell is probably the way he leans forward to give jeff a quick kiss. he's doing his best not to think about how it's all hypotheticals that'll never amount to anything, just enjoy the conversation for what it is. the same way he'd get drunk and ramble about stupid ideas that sound great with a friend. it's just fun mental images to fill the time. ]

[Jeff lifts a hand to carefully cradle the back of David's head while they kiss, and he does his very best to not be too obviously pleased when he pulls away.]

Guess the beard doesn't bother you.

[hardlydead]

Nah.

[ it's unusual for him, things he has no intention of getting into, but in a weird way when they kiss and he feels it against his skin it almost registers as a relief? he's not gonna think too much about that either. ]

[ even when he parts from the kiss, david lingers close, smile still there in his eyes. ]

Suits you. I like it.

You ever seen it when I've done the corpse paint? It's sick.

[What a stupid thing to be saying when you've got someone clutched so intimately close, maybe, but it's clear how much more comfortable Jeff is right here versus the time he spends clustered by the fire with a full group of survivors.]

[ ah, the face paint. david nods, he remembers how he'd jump every time he saw jeff somewhere unexpectedly. ]

It's cool.

[ kinda scary at first, but still cool. ]
