[ he turns his head so he can look at jeff and then leans over to kiss him after another moment's thought. ]

[There are things he wants to ask. David had only referenced ex-girlfriends, and Jeff finds himself alight with curiosity - but it's nosiness for the sake of nosiness, nothing he needs to know.

He reaches up to cradle David's cheek through the kiss. Maybe the sweetest guy with self-professed anger issues that Jeff has ever known.]

[ he doesn't move away from the kiss to say it, grinning as he does. ]

[Jeff grins slightly into the kiss in turn, smoothing his hand from David's cheek down to the side of his neck.]

I don't buy it. The going back to fights when [haha] we get home.

[ that gives him a little pause and he pulls back just enough to look at jeff with a frown, even as he tilts his head a little into that touch. ]

[An apologetic flex of the fingers, as if to indicate he's just teasing here.]

I dunno. Feel like I just haven't met the guy you're describing yet.

[ not... that he's never thought about it. mostly because his football opinions are wrong. ]

[Jeff simply has never imagined that someone with anger issues might be so willing to cuddle.]

[ david smirks. ]

Kick 'em in the balls and throw dirt in their eyes, that's most of it.

[Somehow both dry and plaintive.]

[ he laughs and leans back in to give jeff a quick kiss, just a fond little peck. ]

I'll think about it.

[He's leaning in to chase that little peck with another of his own, privately giddy that this is just something he's simply allowed to do now. Look, you take what you can get here.]

Doesn't inspire confidence.

[ david brings his hand up to the side of jeff's neck, very much on the same page as jeff with being giddy over this, all the quick kisses and little touches. part of him quick to insist it's new and unexpected and that's all it is, but truthfully he's craved this kind of intimacy that he's latched on to it immediately, and while he's never disliked jeff, david certainly wouldn't have anticipated finding this kind of connection with someone as quiet and awkward as he could be. ]

[ thank god for shitty booze in the horrible nightmare dimension ]

God, the next trial with you is gonna be extra shit, huh.

[It will literally be nothing but a new layer of torture if they actually catch feelings.]

[ he aggressively doesn't want to think about that, he doesn't know how he's supposed to handle jeff's screams or seeing his blood on his hands. he'll cross that bridge when they get to it. ]

Yeah. Sorry. Guess I can only think about the one thing to talk about.

[But he shifts then, moving to tug David up snugly against him.]

[ david goes with the tugging, pressing himself to jeff's side. ]

Could just not talk for a bit.

[They have like || much privacy, but whatever. They'll hear anyone coming, right?]

Guess so.

[At least, Jeff is going to assume that was an invitation to make out, because otherwise, oops.]

[ it wasn't, but david's not exactly going to refuse to make out, he's not a crazy person. he was just trying to say that they don't have to fill every moment with conversation. ]

[ but whatever it's making out time now. david breathes out a quietly amused noise and lifts his head to kiss jeff a lot slower and more intently than any of their previous ones. ]

[The slow intensity is new, sure, but Jeff is a fan. He's content to match David's speed here, shifting enough to brace his arm across the middle of the other man's back.

He is on extreme alert for the sound of footsteps.]

[ david is also on high alert for footsteps (or jake deciding to take his argument on tour) but he's never stumbled on anyone else this far into the trees. who knows when someone's going to decide it's time for a walk though. ]

[ his main focus is jeff though, one hand on the side of his face and the other on his side, a quiet and pleased noise slipping out of him into that kiss. ]

[It's tempting to push a little (just a little) further, but Jeff maintains politeness, stroking the small of David's back with gentle sweeps of the thumb. He seems reluctant when it's over, but at least the silence feels comfortable, and he shifts in again as if trying to minimize the space between them. They're allowed a cuddle.]

[ david has told himself to follow jeff's lead, the pace he's set, so when it seems they're done he doesn't protest. his gaze flicks down to the little bit of space between them, a tiny smile just barely there tugging at his lips. ]

[ he kind of wants to say something, but he's not sure what, thus is just nice and it still confuses the fuck out of him. ]
